Bishop Maxim Installs New Abbot at the St. Herman Monastery

platinia-new-abbott-july-20-2013-04On Saturday, July 20 (n.s.), His Grace Bishop Maxim visited the St. Herman of Alaska Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Platina, California, served the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, and installed Hieromonk Damascene (Christensen) as abbot of the monastery. Concelebrating clergy included Protopresbyter Dane Popovich of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Serbian Orthodox Church in Sacramento, California; Priest Nektarios Rozadilla of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Redding, California; Hieromonk Paisius (Bjerke) of the St. Herman Monastery; Priest George Elliott and Deacon Philip Mayer of St. Andrew’s Serbian Orthodox Church in Anderson, California; and Priest Daniel Mackay of St. John the Wonderworker Serbian Orthodox Church in Eugene, Oregon.

 

Bishop Maxim Celebrates St. Peter the Apostle Church Slava

petrovdan 437It was an already warming midsummer morning in California’s Central Valley when Bishop Maxim arrived at St. Peter the Apostle Church in Fresno, California to celebrate the Parish’s Slava the first Sunday after the commemoration of the Holy, Glorious and All Praised Leaders of the Apostles, Peter and Paul.  His Grace was warmly welcomed by Parish Priest Father George Gligich and entered the church with a procession of more than half a dozen cheerful acolytes, Parish Deacon John Davis censing, and the beautiful voices of a full choir.  Then the Hierarchical Liturgy continued with great energy.  The assigned Gospel reading, in which Christ admonishes us to first seek the

 

Bishop Maxim visits Herzegovina

hercegovinaOn July 7,  2013, the Feast of St. Jonh the Baptist, in the town of Trebinje, His Grace, Bishop Maxim concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with fellow Hierarchs, His Grace, Bishop Gregory and His Grace, Bishop Atanasia. The  Liturgy was attended by fifteen Orthodox Christians in several states (California, Colorado, Florida and Washington), who together with  Bishop Maxim came to visit Herzegovina.

The little church was not nearly enough space to accommodate all believers, and was served in front of the temple. Follwing the services His Grace Bishop Gregory addressed the faithful. The hosts of this parish welcomed everyone with a wonderufl Luncheon on the hall next to the church.

A Journey Through Time and History on a Pilgrimage to Holy Mountain, Greece, and Serbian Lands

On June 24, 2013, a small group of American pilgrims hailing from California, Colorado, Washington State and Florida, flew from the U.S. to meet in Thessaloniki, Greece, to begin a pilgrimage to monasteries and holy places in Greece and on Mount Athos, and in Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Herzegovina. The pilgrimage was led by H.G. Bishop Maxim and organized by Fr. Blasko. Fourteen 
days later on Monday, July 8, the pilgrimage came to an end and we pilgrims flew out of Belgrade toour various

 

Holy Trinity Church Celebrates Slava

moraga-slava-2013-1On Pentecost Sunday, June 23rd, Holy Trinity Church of Moraga, California, held its Slava with Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Grace Bishop Maxim with co-celebrants, Father Vasilije Cvijanovic, pastor of Holy Trinity; Father Dusan Bunjevic; Father Slobodan Jovic, St. Michaels of Saratoga; Father Djurica Gordic, St. John the Baptist of San Francisco; Father Zoran Savic, St. George of Oakland; and special guest Father Stamatis Skliris of Athens, Greece.  Father Skliris delivered a very moving  homily, in Serbian, on the importance and meaning of Pentecost Sunday.  The joyous responses were led by the students from the University of California, Berkeley.
