Bishop Maxim’s Archpastoral Visit to the Synaxis of the Faithful in Seattle, WA

seattle-nov-2013Bishop Maxim’s Archpastoral Visit to the Synaxis of the Faithful in Seattle, WA with, Seattle is in the top 5 rainiest U.S. cities by number of precipitations days, and it gets the least amount of annual sunlight of all major cities in the lower-48 states.  This city experiences moderate to heavy rain during the months of November, December, and January. However, during this last Archpastoral visit of His Grace our Bishop Maxim to his humble flock and parish dedicated to St. Sava, we had sunny and crisp weekend.

His Grace arrived on Saturday November 9th, and was greeted by newly installed priest Fr. Predrag Bojovic (who replaced recently retired Fr. Ilija Balac) and Mr. Cedo Marusic, an active member of this parish. After arriving at Fr. Predrag’s residence His Grace was greeted by Fr. Predrag’s family along with few active members of this blessed parish. They spent an evening in spiritually rewarding talks and enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Presbytera Rada.    

Slava in Sveta Petka Parish - San Marcos

2013-10-27-san-marcos-slava-8St. Petka-Paraskeva Serbian Orthodox Parish, California, in San Marcos celebrated its Slava on Sunday, October 27. His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America solemnly officiated at the Holy Hierarchical Divine 2013-10-27-san-marcos-slava-1Liturgy with Fr. Milan Vukovic. After Bishop's sermon, followed the consecration of the gifts and many shared in the Eucharistic celebration. 
Following the litija-procession, immediately upon reentering the church, the bread and wheat were blessed -Slava kolach- with His Grace greeting our kum, parish council officers and all the children who had gathered. His Grace gave his archpastoral blessings and antidoron to all the faithful.A banquet followed the services where several families of the parish lovinglyprepared and served a delicious meal of grilled lamb and vegetables, salad, and a variety of cakes. The Kum for this year Slava was Sasha Terzic with his family.

Mother Dorothea 027On October 9/22, the commemoration day for the Feasts of holy Apostle James, St. Stephen the Blind, and the “Korsun” Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, His Grace Bishop Maxim arrived at St. Xenia Skete in Wildwood, California, to the ringing of bells for the Divine Liturgy. Clergy attending the service included Protopresbyter Dane Popovich of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Serbian Orthodox Church in Sacramento; Priest Nektarios Rozadilla of  St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Redding, California; Abbot Damascene (Christensen)  and Hieromonk Paisius (Bjerke) of the St. Herman Monastery; Priest George Eliott of St. Andrew’s Serbian Orthodox Church in Anderson, California; and Father Deacon David Greenfield of Sts. Bishop Maxim's Meeting with Sacramento "Monday Group"

sacramento-group-10-23-2013-1On Tuesday in Sacramento, a group of young people from Sacramento area had been invited to meet and visit with Vladika at Fr. William Weir's house. The Right Reverend Bishop MAXIM was the Honored Guest for the 20–40 Monday night group. Protinica Maryanne had wonderfully organized the event and prepared a delicious meal for the group. Vladika Maxim sat surrounded by the young people and they shared an evening of exploring ideas. This was their second meeting in two months and, again, they discussed topics of interest to the group, theological-philosophical and societal items. At the last meeting with Vladika Maxim in August, there was some discussion about Syria and world events; some discussion of ‘forgive’ and ‘forget’; some discussion about the notion of ‘now’ as well as other various topics. 

Sebastian Press goes into Francophone Editions by publishing Jovan Ducic's Poetry

poetThe Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris on Friday evening, October 11, 2013, hosted an extraordinary event. A promotion of book of poetry by Jovan Dučić and an exhibition of unpublished Dučić correspondence was organized by book publishers in cooperation with the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris. This is a major cultural event of the year because we are marking the seventieth anniversary of Dučić's death by issuing the first bilingual edition translations of poems in French of this prince of Serbian poetry. About the book spoke: literary critic Slavko Maleševic, editor of this edition Ljubomir Mihajlovic, the publisher Bishop Maxim Vasiljevic, a poet Komnen Bećirović, while actor Sasha Petronijević Dučićevu read poetry in French and Serbian.

Епископ Максим у новој посети Српској Метохији

Октобра 2013. године, Епископ Западноамерички Максим посетио град Призрен у Метохији и том приликом поделио новчану помоћ за децу из сиромашних породица коју је сакупило Коло Српских Сестара из Залива Сан Франциска. И овај пут је Епархија Западноамеричка показала искрену братску солидарност коју Српски народ у САД дубоко осећа према Србима на Косову и Метохији.
