ARCHIMANDRITE SEBASTIAN DABOVIĆ

                        1863-1940

Glorious and wonderful news resounds in the Western American Diocese!  News of the return of Archimandrite Sebastian Dabović to America!  The earthly remains of the first American Orthodox clergyman, apostle and missionary, who passed away and was buried in Ziča in 1940, will be transferred to Jackson, California in the summer of 2007.  After their arrival, the remains will be buried at the Serbian Orthodox cemetery in Jackson, next to the first Serbian Orthodox church in America, which he founded in 1892.
On this occasion and as part of the Diocesan Days celebration in Jackson, there will be a parastos [memorial service] and Holy Liturgy with numerous clergy, monastics and faithful of the Western American Diocese in attendance.
The Bishop of Ziča, Mr. Chrisostom, informed the Bishop of the Western America of the February 26, 2007 resolution of the Holy Synod:
“Your Grace, in connection with the February 13, 2007 resolution, no. 145/section 94, of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, as a result of your January 25, 2007 letter, E. no. 41, and the request of the St. Sava church-school parish of Jackson, California, we give Our Arch-pastoral blessing and approval that the bodily remains of Archimandrite Sebastian Dabović be transferred from Ziča Monastery to the church of St. Sava in Jackson.  Your Grace’s brother in Christ and co-worker – Bishop of Ziča Chrisostom”.
On account of this special event for the Orthodox in America (Serbs, Russians and others), a special committee will be formed – Committee for the organization of the transfer and welcome of Archimandrite Sebastian – and will consist of the Bishop of Western America Maxim, the Bishop of New Gracanica Longin, the Bishop of Australia Irinej, Prota Dushan Bunjevic, Prota Miladin Garic, Abbot Gerasim, Ron Radakovich, Deacon Triva Pavlov, Slavko Kostic.  A pamphlet on the life and work of Archimandrite Sebastian will also be published.
All Serbian Orthodox Bishops in the USA and Canada will be invited to the event as well as Bishops from other Orthodox jurisdictions.
Archimandrite Sebastian is known throughout the US for his missionary-apostolic work, sermons in English, Serbian and Russian, and several books written (in English) for missionary needs.
